Exhibition: The Big Read

A display on the Big Read, featuring Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, can be seen in Olin Library's Whispers Cafe.The display runs through February 28, 2007. The Big Read is a "national program designed to encourage literacy reading by helping communities come together to read and discuss a single book."         

Exhibition: Kokoschka: A Love Story

A wonderful exhibit on the life of artist Oskar Kokoschka is currently on display in the display cases in the Olin Library lobby. Sponsored by the Performing Arts Department to promote the World Premiere performance of Kokoschka: A Love Story, by Henry I. Schvey. The exhibit runs through February 10, 2007.

Lightning Learning!

New Database: Index Islamicus

Index Islamicus indexes literature on Islam, the Middle East and the Muslim world. More info.

Two New E-books

The Libraries have purchased online access to these two titles: American Men and Women of Science and Encyclopaedia Judaica.  Both are full-text, with the same content as the print editions, but fully searchable.  More info about American Men and Women of Science. More complete E-Journal information in the Catalog

We are now loading all ejournal access information into the Catalog monthly - all the information that before was only available on the Fulltext Journals A-Z list. Journals for which online access is available have the word (Online) after the title. We hope you find having all information about print and online journals in one place useful.

New logon password as of Jan. 8

Related to the note about Save your files!, below (on Dec. 8), all profiles for library public computer logons will be deleted on January 7, including any documents that have been saved to the library server. New profiles will then be created, with a temporary password. The first time you log on to a library public computer beginning January 8 you will need to use your temporary password, and will be required to change it at that log on - and every 90 days thereafter. See logon directions (in Word), or Printing FAQ: Logging onto Library Computers for more information.

The ERes system will be unavailable Jan 8 and 9 due to a server upgrade.

New Database: Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO)

ECCO contains the full-text of nearly 150,000 English-language titles and editions published between 1701 and 1800, with full-text searching of more than 33 million pages of material; in essence, every significant English-language and foreign-language title printed in the United Kingdom, along with thousands of important works from the Americas.
