AIP Creates New App for Authors and Reviewers

AIP has created a new iPeerReview iOS app. With it, AIP authors and reviewers can use their iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to access information about papers they've submitted to the Peer X-Press online submission and review site and can perform a number of activities related to their papers, such as listing their papers, viewing in pdf, saving for viewing offline, and emailing. iPeerReview is an integral part of AIP's strategy to make all AIP content more accessible to users. Purchase on Request

The Washington University Library system has started a new program called Purchase on Request.  Links to books have been added to our catalog in various subject areas for books that we do not currently own.  There are approximately 10,000 books in the pilot program.  When the record for a title is found in the catalog, the location field will say:  “To have the Library purchase this, please click the Request button.”  When a patron clicks on the request button, she/he will be taken to a request form.  The patron will need to a) fill-in their WUSTL key (login and password) and b) choose a pickup location.  The paper title will be ordered as a rush.  Patrons will be notified of its availability when the cataloging and other processing is completed.

Google Scholar Opens Up Its Citations

Anyone can now track his or her citations via Google Scholar. The free citation service is “a simple way for authors to compute their citation metrics and track them over time,” the company said in an announcement yesterday on the Google Scholar blog.

Google Scholar automatically sorts articles into groups. Authors can go through those, identify which articles are indeed theirs, and edit the list. Google Scholar collects citations for each author and graphs them over time to calculate different metrics: the widely used h-index; the i-10 index, which is simply the number of articles with at least ten citations; and the total number of citations.
