From Ruth's desk

I've had several questions in July that involved locating math dictionaries or bilingual dictionaries, so I've beefed up the listing of dictionaries on the math library web site. If you'd like me to add other favorite links, let me know.

I had another question asking how someone could donate a book to the library in their honor - honest, I'm not making this up! Conveniently enough we do have an Honor with books program as well as several other giving programs. I do maintain a list of ideas of expensive items we would love to buy IF we had the money, so don't hesitate to send me those suggestions also.

Making MathSciNet work harder for you

Making MathSciNet Work Harder for You [pdf], by Linda Yamamoto from the Mathematical & Computer Sciences Library at Stanford University. I found this poster on searching using institutional codes and Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC) inspirational. I hope you find it interesting also.

In MathSciNet, WU Dept. of Mathematics Institutional code is 1-WASN. You can browse or search the MSC by clicking on "other tools" (top right corner) and then the Search MSC tab.
