New industry research database now available

We've added Plunketts Research Online to our repetoire of industry oriented databases. You can access it throught the business school library site at Plunkett Research

Plunkett Research offers business intelligence, industry trends, statistics, market research, sales leads & corporate profiles. It's especially useful to use the search all feature with a particular product or brand. You can then see all the relevant industry trends, competitors, as well as association listings.

MKT 370: Locating American Demographics articles

Your handout from class (Marketing Plans: Tackling Your Situation Analysis Research) directs your to American Demographics Magazine using the ABI/Inform database. We no longer carry that database, but we do carry it through LexisNexis Academic database.

To search only in the journal "American Demographics":

Step One: Select 'Business News" from dropdown menu.

Step Two: Select "Business and Finance" from dropdown Menu.

Step Three: enter your search term- probably the product you're looking for.

Step Four: set your date range. (I'd choose at least the last two years)

Step Five: Search this publication title:  Type in "American Demographics" with the quotation marks.

MKT 370: Where to find Lifestyle Market Analyst and Demographics USA Zip

Just a reminder that for the rest of the semester you can look for the Lifestyle Market Analyst and Demographics USA (zip edition) on reserve,  behind the circulation desk in our business library. You would normally find them in the Reference stacks, but we wanted to be sure they are easy to find when you need them.

MKT 477- portal for STAT-USA market reports

I just wanted to follow up and let you know how to find the Canadian government portal that lets you search STAT-USA's market research report's by country. It's located at: http://strategis.gc.ca/epic/internet/inimr-ri2.nsf/en/gr-01000e.html

You can of course find these same reports in STAT-USA through the main library,  but you will need the ID/password from your handouts to access it, and it has a two simultaneous user limit. If you can't locate the password, just check at the business library circulation desk and tell them you are in Johanek's class and they'll look it up for you.

MKT 477- Publishers website for your text

You may want to check out the website for your textbook, at http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0073080063/student_view0/index.html. It has an outline and  summary of each chapter, plus a digital version of the Country Notebook that you can expand.

Just a note- the International Resources section is good, but it includes some resources that cost money, and that we do not subscribe to. So, when in doubt, use the grid we handed out in class.

MKT 477...EIU Country reports have been corrected

Just wanted you to know that the problem with the EIU country list that we discussed in class yesterday has been corrected by the vendor. You will now be able to find country reports for France, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, Italy, Israel, India and China.

Ireland, Spain and Lebanon are unfortunately not included in our 40 country subscription, so these teams will need to do some additional footwork. You can go into Business Source Premier database and choose Country reports, then pick your country. The results may take a little browsing, but it's all there. I checked, and noticed that there is sometimes a freeze on reports from the last six months, so in that case, just choose an older report.

BME 201 About remote access

Just a note to let you know that students outside the business school do not have remote access to Dun & Bradstreet, or Sorkins. You will need to stop in the business library on the second floor of Simon Hall. The hours are:

Regular Hours
Monday-Thursday 8:15am - Midnight
Friday 8:15am - 7pm
Saturday 10am - 6pm
Sunday Noon - Midnight

BME 201 From Concept to Market

We have put together a guide to finding biotechnology companies for your semester project... Professor Causevic emailed you each a copy, but if you don't have it handy, there are print copies available at the Circulation desk in the business library. We will also be posting it shortly on the business school site at Other Essentials>Guides.

Mergers and Acquisitions (Gomes)

We've been having our share of troubles with SDC Platinum this semester. We're currently working on an error message that seems to happen only at the end of a search. (How frustrating is that!) It's also only occuring on the computers that are dedicated to business students. So if you need SDC Platinum in the next few days, you'll need to choose one of the open computers (the circle of computers east of the business ones).  When in doubt, ask at the circulation/help desk.

I also understand that we're seeing error messages now on the same (new) computers with the Datastream Advance software. (A pattern is emerging?) We have IT folks from the Libraries and the Business School working on it, so it should be resolved quickly.

Principles of Marketing (Johanek)

For the Situation Analysis portion of your Marketing Plans… the handout from class is also available on the Kopolow Library Website at Other Essentials >Guides>Classes>Situation Analysis for Introduction to Marketing. You can also pick up a copy at the Circulation Desk here in the library.

If you’re looking for a copy of the MarketShare Reporter , the LifeStyle Analyst, or the Zipcode Demographic books, they’ve been moved from the Reference Shelves to the Reserve desk, so you won’t have to search all over the library to track them down!
