On Friday, March 25, the DLS staff and our grant partners from Humanities Digital Workshop and Missouri History Museum paid a visit to the Missouri State Archives in downtown St. Louis. We were able to view the original court documents that we are now encoding in TEI XML. Mike Everman also brought out additional materials pertinent to our project including the Inverted Index and Record Book, which contains rulings of all the court cases that will be digitized for the St Louis Circuit Court Records project. This visit provided all of us an opportunity to catch up on the progress of the grant project so far and discuss plans for moving forward. For those of us that had not seen the source materials for the project before, we appreciated the chance to see these 150 year old documents written by those who could have never envisioned the type of project we are undertaking.
