Springer E-Books

Many Springer books are already available at http://www.springerlink.com. Book titles as well as each chapter title are searchable; full-text is available in pdf. Access to three subject collections of books has been purchased for WU users (on campus or via proxy). Becker Medical Library purchased collections in Behavioral Science and Medicine. The Biology Library and Becker Medical Library jointly purchased the Biomedical & Life Sciences collection. We will have permanent access to all books in these collections published in 2005, 2006 and 2007.  Whenever possible, I do not plan to purchase paper copies of books that will  be available online. Decisions about purchase of the 2008 collections will be based on price and your feedback.

Later this fall, records for these titles will be added to the Becker Catalog and records for the non-medical titles will be added to our Catalog; I hope to find a way to highlight titles in the new books lists. In addition you can sign up for information on new books in particular subject areas using Springer (email) Alerts or via RSS feed. To customize an RSS feed, do a search at http://www.springerlink.com for the sort of material you want, (you may limit to books or not); then use the RSS symbol at the top of your search to get the URL for your RSS feed; subscribe to it using your favorite RSS reader. Because of the addition of many book chapters and our already strong collection of e-journals with Springer (Kluwer, Plenum, etc.), the Springer search engine may occasionally be useful for finding information and citations, just as Highwire, JSTOR, ScienceDirect, Annual Reviews and other rich full-text sites are useful. Note: While Springer is digitizing many titles back to volume 1, we generally do not have access to volumes before 1997. Full-text access to the back-volumes of all titles is available for purchase at about $100,000, too much for us to consider; sorry!
